Open for all?! How to stop racist Entrance Controlls in Clubs?

What's the impact of racial profiling at clubs and what can be done to guarantee non-discriminating entrance controls? In autumn 2011 the Antidiscrimination Office in Saxony has conducted a testing: 6 out of 11 tested clubs acted racist and rejected non-white guests. Since then there have been meetings with clubs, different interest groups and the city council. Also seven law suits have been filed, a campaign targeting clubs has been set up and the issue got a lot of public attention. Racism at clubs is a structural form of everyday racism. The workshop focuses on the different kinds of stakeholders, their impacts and capacities for change. Taking our experiences as an example we will ask what can be done in other cities and who might do it.

Welche Rolle spielen rassistische Zuschreibungen im Nachtleben und wie können diskriminierungsfreie Einlasskontrollen sichergestellt werden? Das Antidiskriminierungsbüro Sachsen hat zuletzt im Herbst 2011 ein Testing durchgeführt. Das Ergebnis: 6 von 11 getesteten Clubs haben Gäste aus rassistischen Gründen abgelehnt. Seitdem gab es Gespräche mit Clubs, Interessenvertretungen und der Stadt, sieben Klagen, eine Positivkampagne und viel öffentliches Interesse. Rassistische Einlasskontrollen sind eine strukturelle Form des Alltagsrassismus. Ziel des Workshops ist es, die verschiedenen Akteur_innengruppen mit ihren jeweiligen Handlungsspielräumen in den Blick zu nehmen und ausgehend von den Erfahrungen aus Leipzig zu fragen, wer was in anderen Städten machen kann.
